- Summary
- For the Deckers, Rina and her detective husband Peter, the vandalising of their synagogue is profoundly shocking. Daubed swastikas and photographs of concentration camp victims testify to a violence that defies understanding. But before long a suspect is in custody. A deeply disturbed child of wealth and privilege, 17-year old Ernesto Golding is obsessed with the origins of his European grandfather, who moved to Argentina after the collapse of the Third Reich. Charges are brought against Golding, a deal is cut and the vandalism case eventually closed. Still, Decker can't help thinking that others were involved in the destruction. His hunch is confirmed six months later when Ernesto Golding is murdered. There are no easy answers to the boy's death. And unravelling the truth behind his tragedy becomes more terrifying with each sinister twist, pushing the deckers and their family into a ghastly world of ruthless parents and damaged youth
