Summary
No artist could have better expressed, in both color and form, the supernatural elements in the stories of Hawthorne's "A Wonder Book, and, Tanglewood Tales" than renowned illustrator Maxfield Parrish. Parrish's ten color illustrations for this extraordinary book are drenched in an exquisite palette of his signature blues and rich earthy browns. The original plates for the book were made by the Beck Engraving Company of Philadelphia whose work for publishers has always been noted for accurate renderings of the artists originals. Only the vivid imaginations of these two gifted artists, one with a pen, the other with a brush, could combine to create such splendid renderings of the old Greek myths. Thus, this exquisitely illustrated children's book of Hawthorne's stories is one of the best, nay, is the very best edition of Hawthorne's classic to date
