Summary
At a time when scholars fill the ranks of the monastery, Desa, who is considered the village idiot, longs to be a priest. His devotion wins him a place among the Franciscans at Otranto, but he continues to struggle to meet the ideal. When Giuseppe gets exiled to the stables, his true nature is recognized by another former peasant-turned-Bishop. The young priest's faith is so great that he begins to have visions and levitates during prayer. This feat 'elevates' him to sainthood
