Summary
When Stormy Knight rode into Carnival on the morning James Sanford, newspaper publisher and editor, was found dead in his printing office, he rode straight into trouble. His immediate assertion that Sanford's death was not a suicide, but murder, made him some relentless enemies -- chief among them Rufe Harper, cattle rancher and mayor of the town, and Harper's gang of mean-eyed, fast-shooting henchmen. But these same suspicions about the murder made him some staunch friends too. Kate Sanford, the dead man's daughter, became such a special friend that Stormy found himself agreeing to take over the paper. With the help of Kate and Quad Wrangel, a wandering printer who not only knew his trade but could also handle a gun, he quickly became a fighting editor with a double weapon. His news columns and fiery editorials carried on a steady campaign against the Harper gang, and his guns backed up the attack. In a surprising, action-filled climax, Stormy winds up the case and makes headlines in his own paper
