Summary
"In the process of research I learned that the story of Notre Dame de la Paix/Our Lady of Peach Parish in south Vacherie is inseparable from parts of the stories of thhe neighboring Cahtolic church parishes of St. James, at St. James, Louisiana; St. Philip, on the river road in North Vacherie, Louisiana; and St. John the Baptist, at Edgard, Louisiana."The book focuses on La Vacherie (Back Vacherie, now South Vacherie) as a spiritual center for settlers primarily of German, French and African ancestry, between 1830 and 2008. This book contains 323 pages, reference notes for each of its 17 chapters, a bibliography of sources consulted, an index of place names and topics, and a second index containing more than 900 proper names. Illustrations in the book include maps, photographs, and legal and miscellaneous documents"In the process of research I learned that the story of Notre Dame de la Paix/Our Lady of Peach Parish in south Vacherie is inseparable from parts of the stories of the neighboring Catholic church parishes of St. James, at St. James, Louisiana; St. Philip, on the river road in North Vacherie, Louisiana; and St. John the Baptist, at Edgard, Louisiana."
