- In 1871, Jacob Demetri and his 17-year-old granddaughter flee Russia for America just before a massacre of Jews occurs. They meet a devout Christian man, Sam Hill, who leads Jacob to the Lord--leaving Reisa feeling alone. Reisa meets Ben Driver, who was just released from prison, and they become business partners who eventually fall in love. Ben vows to regain his honor and become a man worthy of having Reisa
